Shoutout to the crew at Gifford Drywall in Portland

I walked into their shop last week to grab some supplies and saw them using a banjo on a curved ceiling, which I always wrote off as a gimmick, but watching them work convinced me to try it on my next radius job - has anyone else had good luck with those on tricky curves?

Nora nailed it, that banjo trick is the real deal on curves. I was skeptical too until I borrowed one from a buddy for a radius soffit, and it cut my taping time by half. The key is keeping the mud loose enough so it flows without dragging, and making sure you clean the tape guide every few passes, otherwise it gums up. Your mileage may vary depending on the radius, but for anything tighter than a 4-foot arc, it's hard to beat for consistency.

Oh man, that banjo on curved ceilings is no gimmick at all. I tried one on a tricky archway last month and it saved me so much headache, wish I'd picked one up years ago.
