TIL a taper in Reno showed me to prefill butt joints with hot mud before taping, and it cut my sanding way down
Watched him do it on a 2,400 sq ft house back in 2019, said the setting compound shrinks less so the tape doesn't ghost through. Anyone else prefill with 20 minute mud or do you just run paper straight over the gap?
Wait, he prefilled on a 2,400 sq ft house and it actually cut down sanding? I always thought the paper tape needed to sit right on the joint so it bonds to the drywall, not some pre hardened blob of mud. Plus 20 minute mud sets up so fast, seems like you'd be mixing tiny batches all day just to stay ahead of it. Mind kinda blown that a pro would take that extra step instead of just running tape like normal.
