Took 3 days to fix a corner bead gap that should've been an hour

Last month I was finishing a basement in Akron and had this spot where the corner bead didn't sit flush against the stud. Big gap, maybe half an inch, right where two walls met. I thought I could just mud it thick and move on. Spent the whole first day layering compound, waiting, sanding, and it still looked like a bubble. Finally on day 2 I cut the bead off, shimmed the stud with some scrap plywood, and re-attached it. The filler work took maybe 45 minutes after that. I wasted about 19 hours total because I didn't want to pull the bead in the first place. Has anyone else fought a gap like that instead of just fixing the framing underneath?
