Took me 4 hours to figure out a simple corner bead trick

I was fighting with a bullnose corner bead on a job in Columbus for 3 hours, trying to get the paper to lay flat without bubbling. Turns out a quick spray of water and a 10 minute wait before mudding does the trick. Anyone else find a small thing that saves them hours on site?

Spraying water on paper bead is just asking for trouble down the road. That moisture gets trapped and you end up with mold or delamination in a few months. Better to just use a pre-mixed adhesive and tape the bullnose on dry.

Down the road is the key part there. I've seen guys try the water spray trick and six months later they're scraping off bubbles that look like blisters on a sunburn. The real issue nobody talks about is how the paper bead actually bonds to the compound. Dry tape with pre-mixed adhesive lets the compound cure through the paper instead of sitting on top of a wet layer. That trapped moisture also messes with the paper fibers over time, makes them soft and weak so the bead starts to separate at the edges. Had a job last year where the homeowner tried that spray method on their basement remodel, ended up with a musty smell behind the corner beads that took forever to dry out.
