Two coats of mud and a $40 sander turned my worst wall into my best one
I hung 14 sheets in a basement in Boise last month and the first coat looked like a topo map. I was ready to skim the whole thing again until an old timer said to stop fighting the ridges and just run a pole sander with 120 grit between coats. Took me two evenings instead of the week I had blocked out, and the third coat went on so flat I barely touched it with the knife. Finish came out smooth enough that the painter asked who sprayed it, which has literally never been said to me. Am I the only one who used to skip sanding between coats because I thought it was a waste of time?
