Wet my sponge for a butt joint and it worked better than tape
Was hanging a small closet ceiling in Gary, Indiana for a landlord who wanted it done cheap. Ran out of paper tape so I tried something dumb, just soaked my sponge and pressed the mud into the joint really wet. Came back the next day and the seam was tight with zero bubbles. Anyone else skip the tape on small patches or is that asking for a callback later?

Gary, Indiana and a wet sponge on a ceiling joint, that is wild. You really just skipped the tape and prayed huh? For a landlord special closet that might hold up but I would not trust that trick on anything bigger.
