My $240 bid to win a 50 cent toy auction backfired beautifully

Last Saturday I got into a bidding war on one of those online estate sale sites for this ridiculous plastic dinosaur that my kid spotted. I was already in for like $80 and some other guy kept outbidding me, so I got stubborn. Ended up paying $240 total with shipping for a toy that probably cost $3 when it was new. And here's the kicker, this thing didn't even light up or make noise, it was just a hunk of green plastic with one arm missing. My kid played with it for about 4 minutes then went back to a cardboard box. The other bidder messaged me after and said he was just messing around because he was bored, guess I funded his entertainment. Anyone else ever paid way too much just to win a pointless online bid? How do you talk yourself out of that the next time the clock is ticking down?
