Had a terrible dinner fail last Tuesday with my new instant pot

I tried making a simple chicken and rice dish and it came out as mush after I forgot to set the timer right. Has anyone else had a recipe totally flop on a busy night?

Honestly, the timer thing is the least of it with instant pots. I've learned the hard way that "chicken and rice" in one of those is basically asking for trouble unless you nail the liquid ratio. That's the real trap, not the timer. The pressure builds up different when rice is involved, and even a perfect timer won't save you if the grains just turn to paste from too much water. Next time try cutting the liquid by a quarter and use the natural release instead of quick.

Wait, you said you FORGOT to set the timer? That's kind of wild, I always thought those things just beep at you if you don't press anything. So the chicken and rice just sat there and cooked until it turned into mush? I can only imagine how bad that smelled when you finally opened it up.
