Made my first one-pot pasta last night and it actually worked

I was standing in my kitchen at 7pm with a hungry family and a half-empty fridge... I threw some chicken, noodles, and a can of tomatoes into one pot and hoped for the best. It came out edible and even got a compliment from my picky 8 year old. Does anyone else just wing it when recipes call for too many steps?

Winging it is the only way I cook anymore.

Jump right in with the confidence that comes from knowing shortcuts actually work. @aaron_wilson17 nailed it, winging it is basically how most people cook once they realize recipes are just guidelines. It's the same pattern I see everywhere now, people cutting out the extra steps to get to the point. Life's too short to wash three pans for a Tuesday dinner that's gone in fifteen minutes. The one-pot thing caught on because it matches how we actually live, not how some cookbook writer thinks we should. That compliment from your kid says more than any recipe rating could.
