My $15 thrift store pan became my weeknight dinner hero

Last month I picked up a beat up cast iron skillet from a thrift shop in Portland for $15 bucks. It looked terrible, all rusty and crusty on the bottom. I spent a Sunday evening scrubbing it down with salt and oil, then reseasoned it in the oven three times. Now I use it almost every weeknight for quick dinners. Last Tuesday I threw in some diced chicken thighs, bell peppers, and a can of diced tomatoes, and had a one pan meal done in 20 minutes. The cleanup is just a quick wipe with paper towels, no scrubbing needed. Has anyone else had good luck fixing up old thrift store cookware for busy nights?

Right, nothing like a little salt and elbow grease to turn a rusty hunk of metal into your kitchen MVP. Did you also have to sacrifice a weekend to your new cast iron overlord?
