Pro tip: I keep seeing recipes call for a 'quick' 30 minute marinade for chicken. That's basically just wet chicken, not a real marinade. Am I wrong?

Marinades just don't soak deep into chicken that fast, it's true. But calling it just wet chicken seems a bit much. For a weeknight dinner, that 30 minutes still adds way more flavor than nothing. Brian's point about it just seasoning the outside is fair, but that's still a good thing. It's a trade-off between time and taste. Most home cooks aren't running a restaurant, so a quick flavor boost is totally fine.
