PSA: I just found out I've been overboiling my pasta for 15 years
I was making spaghetti last Tuesday and my neighbor dropped by. She looked at my pot and asked why I was boiling it on high with no salt. I told her I always crank the heat and never salt the water. She showed me her method with salted water at a gentle boil and the pasta came out perfect in 8 minutes. My whole life I thought violent bubbling was the only way. Anyone else have a cooking habit they never questioned?

My friend Jake swore by boiling eggs for exactly 11 minutes until his roommate timed him and showed him they were done in 9. He was so embarrassed he started setting timers on his phone for everything.

Totally feel for your friend Jake. I've done that exact same thing where I was convinced my way was right and then felt SO silly when someone showed me the truth. Timers are a lifesaver, honestly, I don't blame him one bit!
