Spent $40 on a fancy garlic press and it broke after 2 months

Picked up this OXO garlic press at Target thinking it'd save me time on taco nights. Thing snapped right at the hinge when I tried to crush three cloves last Tuesday. Now I'm back to using a knife and smashing garlic with the flat side, which honestly works better and costs zero dollars. Anyone else find that simple tools beat the fancy stuff for weeknight cooking?

Went through three garlic presses in two years before I gave up. The last one was a stainless steel model that cost twice as much as the OXO and still bent after a few months. Now I just use a chef's knife and a pinch of salt. Smash the clove flat with the blade, sprinkle some salt on it, then chop until it's as fine as you want. Takes maybe 30 seconds longer but the press never clogs up and you don't have to dig garlic chunks out of the hinge with a toothpick. Funny how the cheapest method ends up being the most reliable.
