The week I discovered frozen ravioli is a cheat code

Last Tuesday I got home at 7:30 after a 12 hour day trimming oaks and had nothing thawed for dinner. I grabbed a bag of frozen cheese ravioli from the back of the freezer, boiled it for 4 minutes, and tossed it with jarred pesto and some cherry tomatoes. My wife actually said "this is better than half the pasta places we go to" which caught me off guard. It took less time than ordering takeout and cost maybe $6 total for both of us. Anyone else got a lazy night meal that turned out way better than it had any right to?

Doesn't jarred pesto kind of ruin it though? Tastes like oily grass to me, makes the whole thing feel cheap.

Yeah but I think you might be buying the wrong jarred stuff @jennifersmith. The super cheap ones at the grocery store are mostly oil and fillers, you're right about that. But there are a few decent brands out there that use real basil and pine nuts, not just soybean oil and spinach. I've had pretty good luck with the refrigerated kind in the deli section, it's closer to homemade without the work. Still not as good as fresh in my experience, but it won't ruin a quick pasta night.
