Vent: my $15 rice cooker died mid week and I refused to buy a new one
Last Tuesday my 6 year old rice cooker quit on me right as I was starting dinner for my two kids, and every post I found online said to just toss it and grab a $30 replacement at Target. I disagree. I pulled out a regular pot, boiled 2 cups of jasmine rice on the stove in 18 minutes, and it came out fine, maybe even better than the cooker. People act like a rice cooker is a must have for weeknight meals but it's one less thing to plug in and wash. Anyone else here cooking rice on the stove on purpose, or am I the only one who gave up on the machine?
One less thing to plug in and wash" is the real win here. Nobody talks about how much counter space that thing hogs for something that just boils water and steams rice. A pot does the same job and you already have to wash a pot anyway if you're making anything else with dinner.
