Showerthought: I swore free shipping was a trap until a lady in Boise changed my mind
So I ran my little candle shop for two years and flat out refused to offer free shipping. I did the math once, saw it would eat like $4.50 per order on my $28 average, and never looked back. Then a lady in Boise emailed me after her third order and asked why my shipping felt higher than everyone else's. I told her it was just the real cost of mailing a 3 pound box, and she said something that stuck with me. She said she would rather pay $34 with shipping baked in than see a $29 sticker and get surprised at checkout. That was it. I raised my prices by 3 bucks across the board two weeks ago and put free shipping on everything over $30, and my cart abandonment dropped way more than I expected. The weird part is my profit per order is basically the same. Has anyone else switched over and regretted it, or did the numbers actually hold up for you too?
