Small business rate change broke my shipping logic, took 3 days to fix
We use Pirate Ship for most orders and their Simple Export Rate was doing fine for international. Then last month a package to Canada came back with a customs charge I didn't expect. Turns out the rate changed and my old rules in the shipping settings were routing everything to a service that added a handling fee. I spent 3 days digging through order history and comparing labels before I noticed the rate name was slightly different. Has anyone else had a carrier quietly change a service tier and mess up their automation?
Oh man, my buddy who runs a little candle shop had the same thing happen with a carrier swapping out a service name on him. He didn't catch it for weeks and ended up eating the extra fees on like 20 orders before he put two and two together. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'd say set a reminder to eyeball your shipping rules every month or so, since these companies sure won't tell you when they change stuff.
