Spent $600 on a label printer for my shop and it ended up saving my sanity
I run a small bath bomb shop out of my garage in Reno and used to print labels on my old inkjet, which jammed every single time I had more than 20 orders. Last month I finally dropped $600 on a thermal label printer after my husband kept saying I was wasting hours fighting with tape and scissors. I was worried it was too much money for a hobby that might not last, but I got through 150 orders in one weekend without a single jam and my back stopped hurting from leaning over the printer. Now I'm wondering if I should have bought the cheaper $200 model instead, but honestly the speed is the only reason I didn't quit during the holiday rush. Has anyone else gone with a thermal printer and regretted spending the extra cash, or was it worth it for you too?
My husband said the same thing about my $200 Brother printer, called it a fancy toy until I cranked out 80 orders in one night while he was still untangling the tape roll. The speed thing is real though, I timed it once and my old inkjet took almost 6 minutes per page with the jamming and reprinting, the thermal does it in like 3 seconds. Spending that much on a garage hobby does sound a little batshit at first, but if it kept you from quitting during the holiday rush then it basically paid for itself in sanity alone.
