Tried flat rate boxes for everything and my shipping bill went UP, not down
I run a small store selling handmade ceramic planters out of my garage in Toledo, so shipping eats a big chunk of every sale. Back in March I switched everything to flat rate boxes thinking I'd finally stop guessing on weight and save money. Turns out 3 out of 4 of my boxes weigh under 2 lbs with the packing, so I was paying $10.40 flat for stuff that used to cost me $4.80 by weight, and it took me 6 orders to notice the math. February shipping ran me $212, March jumped to $348 and I sat there staring at the sheet trying to figure out what I did. Anyone else gone flat rate and had it backfire on lighter stuff, or am I the only one who did this dumb?
Been there, flat rate is a trap for anything under a few pounds and I ate the same kind of loss before I caught it. You're not dumb, you just trusted the boxes instead of running the math first, and half of us did the same thing.
