I finally stopped being skeptical about spray foam insulation after my first winter
I always thought it was overhyped till our December gas bill dropped by $140 compared to last year with fiberglass. Has anyone else seen that kind of savings after switching?

Read somewhere that spray foam is basically like wrapping your house in a sleeping bag. Our neighbor did the retrofit last fall and his gas bill went from like $300 to $180 in January. Crazy part is his attic used to be a freezer up there even with the old insulation.

My buddy Steve did the same thing to his 1960s ranch house outside Cleveland last winter. He was telling me his attic used to hit 15 degrees even with the old fiberglass batts, but after the spray foam it stays right around 45 degrees even when it's 10 below outside. Funny thing is he said his house got way more quiet too because there's less wind noise coming through the walls. The guy who sprayed it told him the old insulation was basically just a suggestion, not actual insulation since it had settled down to like 2 inches thick over 60 years. Steve's wife complained that it smelled like chemicals for a few days after though, so he had to run a window fan for a week to clear it out.
