Permit process ate up 3 weeks of my basement reno timeline

I thought I had everything lined up for my basement finishing project in Edmonton. Turns out the city permit review took 22 days instead of the 5 business days they claim online. Had to redo my egress window drawing twice because the inspector said my measurements were off by half an inch. Anyone else get stuck waiting on permits way longer than expected around here?

22 days is rough, especially when they advertise 5 business days. It's not just permits either - feels like everything takes way longer than the sticker says these days.

Is it really that serious though? 22 days for a permit in a lot of places is basically the express lane. I've heard of people waiting months, especially in bigger cities where the system is just totally backed up (like, always). Yeah, the 5 day promise is annoying and wrong, but it feels like we all kinda know those "business day" estimates are a fantasy at this point.
