Picked up a tip about insulating basement rim joists at the city workshop last Tuesday.

The presenter said most homes in Edmonton lose 20% of their heat right there, and a can of spray foam and some rigid board cut to size only costs about $60. Has anyone else tried this and noticed a real difference on their heating bills?

My buddy did his last fall and said his basement stopped feeling like a meat locker.

Stopped feeling like a meat locker" - that's a good way to put it. Seems like every old house I've been in has that one cold, damp spot that never warms up. Makes you wonder how many little fixes like this add up to a whole house that just works better.
