Why does nobody talk about using spray foam to seal rim joists in Edmonton winters
After my gas bill hit $380 last January, I crawled into my crawlspace and found gaps big enough to stick my hand through between the floor joists and the concrete foundation, so I spent a Saturday with two cans of Great Stuff and it dropped my December bill to $260, has anyone else checked their rim joist after seeing crazy heating numbers?

Oh man, I was totally skeptical about spray foam for rim joists but after sealing mine last fall I wish I'd done it years ago! There's no way I'm going back to fiberglass batts down there after seeing those savings on my Enmax bill.

Did you use the closed cell or open cell stuff for your rim joists, @sam_scott59? I did mine two winters ago and the difference was nuts, no more freezing cold draft coming up from the basement floor. Closed cell is pricier but worth it for the air seal, just make sure you wear gloves because that stuff sticks to everything.
