I finally cracked the case of the flickering kitchen lights.

I was called to a house where the kitchen lights would dim and brighten randomly. At first, I thought it was a loose connection, so I checked all the switches and fixtures. Then I saw the neutral wire in the main panel was getting hot. I tightened the neutral bus bar and used some antioxidant paste to stop corrosion. Now the lights are steady, and I check the panel first for similar issues.

Loose neutrals in the panel often cause flickering lights that people miss. Heat from a bad connection can ruin other parts in the panel after a while. Using antioxidant paste helps a lot, mainly with aluminum wires.

Neutrals... always the first place to look.

Check the meter base first.
