My boss insisted on using wire nuts for a 50-amp subpanel feed in a garage, but after seeing the burnt connection, I'm convinced crimp connectors with heat shrink are the only safe way.

I found the melted wire nut on a Friday call-out, and now I'm asking if anyone else has seen this happen with high-amperage runs.

A buddy of mine had the same thing happen with a 40-amp feed to a workshop heater. The wire nut just couldn't handle the heat over time and it cooked itself loose. He ended up redoing the whole run with crimps and hasn't had a problem since.

Ever check the torque on those lugs?
