Opened an old fuse box and found a mouse nest built from wire insulation

Was replacing an old fuse box in a basement last Tuesday. When I took off the cover, a mouse nest was right there. The homeowner was surprised but we had a good chuckle. I carefully moved the nest outside and finished the install. Always expect the unexpected in this trade!

Was the insulation chewed up or just stripped?

Look at the holes, definitely chewed.

Just stripped... are you serious? There were actual holes chewed clean through the outer sheathing in two spots, bare copper wire showing. Looked like something went at it with tiny wire cutters, not teeth.
