Saw a weird setup in a 1920s building downtown

I was in this old office building on 5th Street for a service call, and the main panel still had original cloth-covered wire feeding into it... like, the insulation was basically dust. The super said it 'worked fine for a hundred years' and didn't want it touched. How do you even start that conversation about a full rewire without sounding like you're just after a big job?

Honestly, maybe the super has a point. That old cloth wire was built like a tank, and if the building's been fine this long, it's clearly not an emergency. A full rewire is a massive, messy job that could cost more than some of these old places are worth. Sometimes you just gotta leave well enough alone until something actually breaks.

Why do we only fix things after they break?
