Serious question, has anyone else had a homeowner try to pay you with a box of old breakers?
This guy in a 1970s split-level in Spokane last spring offered me a dusty cardboard box full of Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breakers he'd 'saved from the reno' instead of the final $350, saying 'a real electrician would know these are gold'.

Tell him you'll take them to the scrap yard and deduct the copper value.

That's not just a bad payment, it's a weird liability. Those things are basically house fire starter kits. Accepting them feels like taking a box of recalled airbags as payment for auto work. The real question is if he'd also expect you to sign a receipt stating they were received in good, working condition.
