Got an old CRT monitor on my bench and it still holds a charge after 8 months unplugged

I read a post where some guy said you should always discharge CRTs even if they've been sitting forever. Took out my multimeter and sure enough it was at like 1500 volts. Has anyone else gotten bit by a lazy assumption like that?

Oh man, that's wild! 1500 volts after 8 months is no joke. I always give them a quick discharge with a resistor just to be safe, even if they've been sitting for years. Got zapped once by a small cap that still had 20 volts and that was enough for me to never skip it again.
