Switched from a cheap $20 hot air station to a proper Hakko one
Honestly, the difference on a simple HDMI port replacement was night and day. The Hakko's airflow control kept the surrounding components cool and the solder flowed perfectly on the first try. Anyone else find a specific tool upgrade that made a huge difference in your success rate?

Read a forum post once where a guy said his cheap iron was basically just melting plastic. Upgrading to a temperature controlled station let him actually work on the boards without destroying them. The right tool for the job really does change everything.

Buddy of mine tried fixing his old car with just a basic socket set like @thompson.brian mentioned, ended up snapping a bolt and had to drill it out. He finally bought a proper torque wrench and the next job went smooth as butter, said the click felt like winning a tiny lottery. Night and day difference when you've got the right gear for what you're actually doing.

Upgraded from a basic socket set to a proper torque wrench. Suddenly I wasn't stripping bolts or leaving them loose. That click when you hit the spec is pure satisfaction.
