Wasted 60 bucks on a fancy desoldering station I didn't need
Picked up that expensive vacuum desoldering station thinking it'd speed up my board work... turns out my $15 spring-loaded solder sucker does the same job for through-hole stuff. Used it twice in 4 months, mostly collects dust on the shelf. Anyone else regret a big tool purchase that your basic kit already handled?

My $200 hot air rework station has been sitting in the same spot on my bench for about 8 months now. I bought it to fix a laptop charging port, used it that one time, and now it just watches me solder like a sad little paperweight. The worst part is my $40 Pinecil iron does 90% of what I actually need on a normal day. I keep telling myself I'll need the hot air for some big project and it never happens. Pretty sure my cheap solder sucker and some braid would've handled that port fix just fine if I'd been patient.
