Appreciation post: the building super who told me to slow down
Had a job at a 12-floor building downtown and this old super named Frank pulled me aside, said 'you're moving too fast for a problem that ain't running away.' Made me realize I was skipping the basic leveling checks just to get done quicker. Any of you ever had a random person on site give you advice that actually stuck?

Did Frank also happen to charge by the hour? Because that is some solid job security advice right there. I had a painter once tell me "haste makes waste and waste means more trips to the hardware store" and I still think about that every time I try to skip a step. The last time I rushed through caulking I ended up with a line that looked like a toddler drew it with toothpaste. Slowing down actually saved me from buying another tube of the stuff.

My dad was the same way with woodworking - he'd say "measure twice, cut once, and then check your pencil line again." @rowanw31 One time I tried to speed through taping off a room for painting and ended up with paint bleeding under the tape in three spots. Had to peel it all off and start over, took twice as long. That last tube of caulk you wasted really hits home, I think we all learn that lesson the hard way.
