Old Otis vs new lifts - night and day difference

Worked on a 1970s Otis machine room last week, then went to a newer MRL job the next day. The old Otis just ran smooth with zero controller headaches. Honestly think the older gearless setups are way more reliable than these newer AC drives.

Night and day difference" is right. Used to love new tech, but that old Otis changed my mind.

Different tech has different tradeoffs, for sure. Newer stuff can have way more features and be easier to fix if something goes wrong. But I've also had old Otis elevators that ran smooth and quiet for decades with just basic maintenance. The newer ones sometimes have a ton of sensors and software that cause needless headaches when they glitch. Your mileage may vary, but I think a lot of it comes down to who installed it and how well they maintain it. A well-kept older system can still win over a poorly set up shiny new one, in my experience.
