Replaced the governor rope on a 15 story building from 1985 and the car runs 40% smoother now

The old steel cable had stretched almost an inch over its length, causing inconsistent tension. Has anyone else seen that kind of wear on a pre-1990 system?

Honestly thought cable stretch was mostly a myth until seeing results like that. Makes total sense now.

That inch of stretch on a 15 story run is a wild visual. I see what @gonzalez.wesley means about it seeming like a myth until you see the proof. Just shows how a tiny bit of wear adds up over decades.

But an inch over that distance is still a tiny fraction of the total length. Seems like the real risk gets overblown in most normal use cases.
