Spent $180 on a laser alignment tool for a job in Cleveland and it saved my back big time
I was leveling a new rail system in an older building downtown and kept second-guessing my bubble levels. Finally bit the bullet on a rotary laser kit from a local supply house (roughly $180 with the receiver). Got the whole job done in one pass without crawling around on my knees for hours. Has anyone else switched to laser for rail work or am I late to the party?

Tbh you're not late at all, I just made the switch last year on a commercial track job in Akron. The rotary laser saved me from having to redo a whole section because my bubble level was off by a hair. $180 is a steal for that kind of peace of mind, especially with the receiver included. My guys used to fight over who had to crawl down the line checking levels, now it's one pass and done.

Blew a whole Saturday on a residential job back in March because I trusted my old bubble level over a friend's laser. Ended up having to pull up half a deck and start over. My wife still brings it up every time I leave the house with my tool belt. So yeah, $180 sounds like a bargain compared to that kind of weekend. I'd probably still forget to charge the batteries though, knowing me.
