TIL some guys are leveling rails by eye instead of using a transit
Met a mechanic from Chicago at a supply house last week who swore he could set guide rails within 1/16" just by looking down the shaft. Said laser transits are for rookies. I've always used a laser every time because one rail out of spec causes a rough ride forever. Am I overthinking it or is that just asking for callbacks?

Wouldn't relying on eyeballs kinda guarantee extra work when the train rolls through?
