Tried a new way to check for door lock drag on a 15 year old Otis unit
Honestly, I used a laser level instead of my usual string line to check the alignment, and it showed the bottom roller was off by almost a full quarter inch. Ngl, I was surprised because the string method never caught that specific angle before. Has anyone else found a better tool for spotting subtle door drag issues?

Guess the string was having an off day.

Yeah, saw a video about that exact thing, @ivan_cooper. Strings are weird sometimes.

Oh wow, quarter inch is huge, that's basically a whole new problem waiting to happen. So now I'm wondering, did you run the laser level across the entire track length just once, or did you check it at a few different spots? I'm thinking about things like thermal expansion if the unit's been running heavy all day, or maybe the track itself has a slight bow that only shows up when you're looking at it dead-on. That little 1/4 inch could be the bottom roller telling you the whole frame is twisted, not just a misalignment thing. Did you check the top guide shoe clearance right after you found that?
