Tried the old timer trick of using a penny to reset a stuck brake switch

I jammed a 1982 penny into the contact gap on a Dover unit like my mentor said, and it worked for exactly 14 seconds before the whole thing sparked and threw the breaker, has anyone else had a hack backfire that badly?

Used to think a quick jam fix was fine till you got a replacement part. That spark changed my mind real quick.

Oh for sure @alicea26, that little spark is like a wake-up call you never forget. I always keep a cheap multimeter in my truck now just to check if the power's actually dead before I even touch anything. Saves you a lot of cussing and a possible trip to the ER.
