Figured out a trick to stop our ISP from throttling our phone system
We run a small call center out of our office in Phoenix. For months our VoIP calls would drop every day at 2 PM like clockwork. I tried switching providers, upgrading our router, even had the ISP send a tech out. Turned out the problem was that our router's QoS settings were completely disabled by default. I turned them on and prioritized the VoIP traffic. Has anyone else had their equipment shipped with QoS turned off?

Did you check if your firmware was up to date too? I had the same problem with a different brand of router, and updating the firmware actually enabled the QoS settings that were grayed out before. It's worth a look since sometimes the factory firmware just has stuff turned off for no reason.

honestly I'd say it depends. a lot of times firmware updates are overhyped and can actually break stuff that was working fine before. I've had routers where updating the firmware just added more bloat and made the UI laggy. QoS being grayed out could just be the manufacturer's way of keeping things simple for normies who don't mess with settings. unless you're actually having issues like lag spikes or bufferbloat, I wouldn't stress about it too much.
