Heard a sales guy claim uptime is the only thing that matters for enterprise ISPs

I was on a call last Tuesday with a regional ISP sales rep who kept saying 99.999% uptime is the holy grail for businesses. But I've been dealing with our provider here in Cleveland for 3 years and honestly, latency and jitter matter way more to my team than that five nines mark. We had a whole month last fall with 100% uptime but packets were dropping like crazy during peak hours, and our video calls were useless. Anyone else find that support response times and routing consistency beat a perfect uptime stat in practice?

99.999% isn't even what most enterprises actually need.

Honestly, you're right that "99.999%" is overkill for most businesses. Most companies don't need five nines of uptime because their internal tools or even customer-facing apps can handle a few minutes of downtime here and there without anyone noticing. The real cost of maintaining that level of reliability is insane too, like you're paying for redundant servers and failover systems that barely get used. For the average enterprise, like a mid-size retailer or a marketing agency, five nines is just flexing for no reason.
