I finally understood the 'skinimalism' shift after a client in Seattle last week asked me to strip her routine back to just a cleanser and SPF.

Three years ago, she wanted a 10-step Korean regimen, but last month she canceled her monthly chemical peel subscription, and now she just wants barrier repair and simplicity, which honestly feels like a healthier goal for a lot of people lately, right?

My dermatologist friend in Chicago said she's seeing this all the time now. She told me last month that about half her new patients come in asking how to fix damage from overusing acids and retinols. They're all switching to those simple, calming creams with ceramides. It makes total sense, because a lot of those ten-step routines were more about fun than function.

Oh man, that tracks with what I've seen with my sister in law. She went all in on those strong serums a couple years ago and her skin got so red and irritated she had to stop everything for like six months. Now she just washes her face with some basic Cerave and her skin looks better than it ever did with the fancy stuff.

Maybe your friend's patients just had bad routines, @rayc89. A solid acid or retinol plan with the right support steps works better than just slapping on a basic cream.
