Remember when we used to steam clients for 20 minutes straight?
I started doing facials in 2008 at a spa in Denver. We'd hit everyone with the steamer for what felt like forever. Now I'm barely doing 5 minutes, if that. The new research about barrier function changed my whole approach. Anyone else cut way back on steam time after those 2019 studies came out?

Have you noticed better skin outcomes since cutting the steam time down? I made the same switch after seeing how much it dried people out, especially combo skin types.

Actually cutting steam time helps but what gets overlooked is the water temperature itself. Steam that's too hot still dries me out even if I keep it short. Dropped mine from 10 minutes to about 4 and switched to lukewarm water instead of scalding hot and my combo skin stopped flaking in my t-zone area. The heat level matters just as much as the timer on the clock.
