That popular extraction tool is actually causing more breakouts
I see it all the time in this sub... people recommending that thin metal loop tool for pore extractions. I worked at a spa in Austin for 3 years and we stopped using them completely after we noticed clients coming back with more inflamed skin than they came in with. The problem is those tools push bacteria sideways under the skin instead of lifting it out cleanly. I switched to just using gloved fingers with gentle pressure after steaming properly and my results got way better. Clients stopped having those red spots that take a week to heal. Has anyone else noticed this with those loop tools or am I the only one?

My esthetician friend told me the metal loops actually have micro scratches that get worse over time, even if you clean them. She looked at hers under a magnifying lamp and saw tiny grooves where bacteria hide. Those scratches can trap oil and dead skin, so every time you use the tool you're basically rubbing old gunk back into fresh pores. It's like using a scratched nonstick pan where stuff keeps sticking no matter how much you wash it. I'd rather just stick with my fingertips and a good clay mask once a week.

Right? those metal loop things are basically tiny shovels for your pores. I tried it once on a blackhead on my nose and ended up looking like I lost a fight with a rusty paperclip for a week.
My roommate still swears by hers and I swear every time she uses it her skin looks worse for two days after. It's like using a garden trowel on a dandelion, sure you got it out but now theres a crater.
Gloved hands or even just a warm washcloth after a shower works way better for me. Those loops are just overpriced skin aggravation tools.
