Had a debate with my roommate about password managers vs memory

So last night my roommate said he just memorizes all his passwords and thinks password managers are a security risk. I mean I get where he's coming from, using one less app means less chance of getting hacked. But I've got like 60+ logins across work email, banking, streaming sites, and shopping accounts. No way I'm remembering all those unique 12-character passwords. Meanwhile he uses the same base password with a symbol swap for everything which seems worse. What do you all think is the better everyday approach for normal people who aren't tech experts?

Roommate's gonna learn that lesson the hard way when his bank account gets cleaned out by someone who figured out "P@ssword1" doesn't cut it for five different sites. I'd rather trust one company that's entire job is keeping passwords safe than trust myself not to reuse the same three letters from my cat's name across everything. Plus you get that nice warm feeling when the password manager auto-fills some nightmare string like "xK9$mQ2#vL8p" and you literally couldn't type it out if you tried. The guy memorizing 60 unique passwords is either lying or has a brain the size of a small planet.

Lol I actually heard a news story about someone getting scammed cause their password manager got hacked. But honestly your password manager getting hacked is still better than you accidentally getting phished on some random site.
