My phone alarm failed me twice, now I use a second device

Last Tuesday I slept through a 7am dentist appointment because my phone updated overnight and the alarm just didn't go off. That cost me a $40 no-show fee. I spent the next two hours moving all my important alarms to an old tablet I keep on the nightstand, plugged in and set to do-not-disturb. It's been 9 days now and it hasn't missed once. Anyone else keep a backup alarm on a separate gadget or am I just paranoid now?

Did you ever get a refund for that missed appointment? I used to think one alarm was plenty, my phone never let me down for years. Then the same thing happened to me, a silent update overnight and I was two hours late for a job interview. Now I keep an old clock radio on my dresser set as a backup, it's got a loud buzz that's impossible to sleep through.
