Ran a backup script on my phone that deleted 2 years of photos instead of saving them
Had an app that was supposed to auto-backup my camera roll to Google Drive. Set it up last Sunday and let it run overnight. Woke up to find all 1,200 photos gone from my phone and nothing in Drive. Turns out the default setting was 'sync and delete originals' instead of 'copy'. Learned to always test a new backup tool with just 3 dummy files first before trusting it with real stuff. Has anyone else had a backup tool eat their data instead of protecting it?

Golly, that's just awful. I can't believe a backup tool would have a setting like that as the default. Who in their right mind thinks 'sync and delete originals' is what most people want? Losing 1,200 photos is a hard lesson learned, and your tip about testing with three dummy files is one I'll be using from now on. I'd be absolutely sick if that happened to me, especially with all the family pictures I have from the past few years.
