Rant: My phone's auto brightness keeps going too dark at night

I set my phone to auto adjust brightness, thinking it would be smart, but every evening in my living room it dims the screen so much I can barely read. I learned you have to manually tweak the setting in a dark room for it to learn your preference. Does anyone have a better fix for this?

My old Galaxy S10 had the same problem for years. I just assumed auto brightness was broken by design. Then I spent ten minutes in a dark closet manually adjusting the slider up and down like the guides say. It actually learned my preference after that. Why don't they make that calibration step more obvious when you first turn the feature on?

Why do we have to train our phones like they're puppies? @tyler_hall9 is right, it's wild that the fix is hiding in a dark closet doing a weird little brightness dance. The phone should just ask, "Hey, is this good?" when it gets it wrong, instead of making us guess the secret handshake. It feels like the auto feature was made by people who only use their phones in perfectly lit labs.
