Rant: My phone's endless pinging made me snap, so I shut off every alert
It got so absurd that my phone buzzed during a shower, and I slipped trying to grab it. Now I hold the crazy opinion that notification management apps are a waste when you can just turn them all off. For example, I only check my messages three times a day, and my email once in the morning. This hack means I actually focus on work instead of jumping at every sound. My friends think I'm missing out, but my battery lasts longer and I'm less stressed. Give it a shot for a weekend and you might not go back.

But what if you miss something urgent like a work crisis or a family emergency? In my experience, setting up smart filters so only key people can reach you avoids the noise without going dark. I let close contacts and my boss break through the silence, which saved me when my kid got sick at school. Total shutdown seems risky when you can just tune out the junk alerts.

Filters fail and then you miss the real emergencies anyway.
