Spent 45 minutes setting up a smart plug that took 2 minutes to configure
Last weekend I bought a TP-Link smart plug from Best Buy for $18, thinking it would be a quick way to turn my coffee maker on from bed. I got home, plugged it in, downloaded the app, and spent a solid 45 minutes trying to get it to connect to my WiFi. Turns out the plug only works on 2.4GHz networks, and my router kept defaulting to 5GHz for my phone. I had to go into my router settings, split the bands, and rename the 2.4GHz network before it finally paired. My coffee was cold by the time I figured it out. Is there a simpler way to set these things up without messing with router settings? Anyone else run into this band issue with smart home gear?
