Vent: My phone screen cracked from a stupid USB cable trick I saw online

I was at a coffee shop in Portland last week and saw a guy using a USB cable as a makeshift phone stand. Tried it with my own cable at home, my phone slipped off the counter and hit tile. Now I'm paying $175 to replace the screen on my Pixel 7. Has anyone else gotten burned by one of those quick fix ideas that just makes things worse?

Maybe the real trick is just buying a cheap case with a kickstand.
